Hey, Newgrounds!

Posted by DarkAnimePrincess - November 25th, 2014

Hey, Newgrounds users! I won't reveal my real name, unless I've know you for a long time, so just call me Princess for now. I'm a young woman, who loves to roleplay, voice act (though I'm not very good at it), write, draw, read manga, watch anime and cartoons. I enjoy villains more than heroes, I find them interesting. I'm not a girly girl, but I do like beautiful things at times like; my icons. I am strong-willed, imaginative, creative, artisitc, and experienced in many real life experienes. So, if you need advice, you can always talk to me. I can be too trusting sometimes, but no one hurts my friends without dealing with me! Anyway, don't be afraid to chat sometime ~__^

Hey there Princess! Welcome to NG! :)

Thanks! I hope to meet some really talented people here and maybe I can help them out too!

Well you're in the right place. :) A haven of innovation this is, brimming with talonfuls of the most talented tale-tellers and tattletales, crafty craftsmanship and crazy creativity!

LOL! Awesome! Sounds like I'll fit right it. Just curious: What do you do?

I'm an aspiring writer, among other things. :) As for what I earn a living on: anything that earns me enough to let me live on and really live! Right now that's a little site design/hosting, session lyricism, appearing briefly in random commercials (weeell at least one) and working part-time as personal assistant. Not currently the most profitable and rewarding set up, but it's a step up! How about yourself?

Awesome! I wrote a novel I'm trying to get published. I can't get a real job because my Grandma is blind, diabetic, immobile, and has Alzheimer's, so I stay home to help my Papa (Grandpa) take care of her, BUT I do get money in other ways.

Ohh, that's a real harsh collection of handicaps! How old is she? How long has she been like that... if you don't mind me asking? My grandma actually died last year, after a lively and productive 93 years. The last few she stopped being able to move around, eventually couldn't fully take care of herself, had to call in assistants, etc, and after one heart attack (her 7th, I think) her body just refused to recover. Pretty depressing last moments...

Her sister's still alive, 97 y/o. They lived just a km apart pretty much their entire lives, so they always had someone to confide in nearby. She's virtually blind and deaf now, but still clear in mind. I imagine Alzheimer specifically could be pretty devastating, having people you love not remember who you are, etc... aaanyway, don't mean to set a brooding mood here!

On the topic of writing, I'm a few chapters into my first novel myself. After writing only short stories and other textual segments, it's a bit of a challenge keeping the storyline consistent all the way through. Best of luck with finding that publisher! Do you have any other (shorter?) written works online already?

She is 71, my Papa and her are a year apart in age. She has had diabetes since she was 21, been blind since 2003, just before I started High School, and she developed Alzheimer's in June 2012. I think she forgot how to even stand!

I'm so sorry for your loss. For some reason my family dies in ALL other ways, except old age.

Grandma won't forget me, she refuses to because I took the most care of her. Don't worry, it's comforting to get this off my chest once in a while.

It's easy for me to keep a story consistent, I've been practicing it (and drawing) since I was 4 years old. I have tons of shorter stories, most of them are based on putting an alter-ego of myself in my favorite anime/cartoons: Avatar: The Last Airbender, Sonic, He-Man, Winx Club, Sailor Moon, ect.

Thanks!

Same age as my parents! Though the other way around: mom's 70, dad 71. :) They're still both doing OK, though living at home is definitely not as worry-free as it used to be...

Ah, does the blindness have anything to do with the diabetes?

Well she didn't really die of old age, but she was indeed pretty old when she died! I know one of my grandfather's brothers died in his sleep one day, perfectly healthy the night before, but most don't have as easy a final phase. Thanks! Sounds like you've had more fatalities in the family than I have though? If you don't mind another potentially personal question - what about your parents? (hope they're OK though...)

That's good to hear! And sorry about your situation too btw.

You've been writing since you were 4?! Pretty impressive! I probably started writing poetry around fourth grade, and things picked up after that. It was just poetry for the longest time though, only short stories the last few years. Nice.

Legend of Korra (the Avatar sequel) is one of few animes I'm watching right now, great series! Though the originally one was probably even better. I actually have a few Winx Club comics haha but eh... it's really not my preferred reading material. :P

Good to know your parents are healthy.

My dad died of Heart Attack. My cousin, Alex died of drug overdose, my other couisn, Terry hanged himself IN my aunt's old summer home, which was destryoed by Drug Dealers she mistakenly sold the house to.

Sugar Diabetes is an illness with no cure and it is so easy to get and let grow. It happens when you consume so much sugar, your kidneys are unable to pass it properly, so it has to store it somewhere else and where does it get stored? Your blood. Where does you blood go in your body? EVERYWHERE, including through your organs. I think the diabetes might have attacked Grandma's eyes, but she did have blistered behind her eyes and it destroyed her cornea's too.

My Nana (Rosiland a.k.a Mary Kelly, Great Grandmother) is an orphan, not knowing her parents or where she came from and not wanting to know, she was adopted and married her adopted brother (my great grandfather, who died from drinking), had 5 kids, my uncles and aunts: Teddy, Benny (deceased, died from heart failure), Patty, Roz, and Richard (Papa), and died at 91 or 92. All of them are married and had kids (I have a BIG family!) Teddy is a hermit, Patty was devoted to Nana, and my Papa served in Vietnam, where he got TWO bullets in his knee. They worked they're way out YEARS later, but destroyed the cartilage, or cushioning, in his knee, causing him pain if he's on it too long. He has a brace, but it doesn't seem to help much. He used to drink, but not after falling down the stairs WITH Grandma, and he still smokes.

My Grandma is from England with two sisters, a deceased brother, a niece, and her niece's son. She came over here for work and met my Papa when he fell off a ladder fixing up Patty's summer home. Grandma never drank, smoked, or swore. However, all her problems started here...Grandma found me on the streets, where a group of 5 and 6-year-old kids sat in a small, protective circle around me, watching me play because my mom was asleep on the couch!

As aforementioned, my father is dead, but I never met him and he wanted my mother to abort me, anyway!

My mom...Where do I begin? She had 6 kids, I'm the oldest with 3 sisters and 2 brothers; Caitlyn, Rachel (who had Muscular Dystrophy, which means your muscles don't work properly), Nickholas, Rebecca, and Braydon (who my mom still has.) She's only kept each child for 1 or 2 years, until they were taken, I was taken by mt Grandparents when I was 2 years old, but I was the only one. My siblings were adopted by a Virginia woman, but, thanks to Facebook, I have gotten in contact with Caitlyn, who was born 4 years after me (she has 2 kids and lives in Colorado now) and Nickohlas, my 1st brother. We get along well. Braydon has been to visit a few times, but he is on medication for Physoctic Outbursts. My mom used to be a truck drive, only coming home for 1 or 2 days a month, leaving Braydon with abusive babysitters, he developed A LOT of behavioral problems from it. My mom gets money from EVERYWHERE to use on Braydon, but she used it to buy a car! She's a compulsive liar and believes half her own lies! On to of that, she STINKS! Now, she as several health issues and cancer, so when she dies, I'm going to court for custody of Braydon.

Sorry, I know that's A LOT to take in.

Woah, I probably won't be able to put all those names in memory... but albeit occasionally tragic it was an incredible story too. I'm sorry to hear about your parents/cousins! Feels like no offer of empathy would suffice for such a cruel tale of life, but the origins were inspiring at least, how such a large family took form and grew through orphan roots. Ever thought about doing some genealogy? ..if that's even possible?

I have a sister and a brother myself, and a niece; my dad's parents are dead since way back, my grandpa since maybe ten years. Mostly natural causes; a little cancer. Back in my grand grandma's day there was a bit more drama, I know a few of my grandma's siblings drowned, don't know much about my grandpa's side. The North of Sweden was still largely unpopulated back then and they lived like settlers, making farmland out of the wilderness. My grandpa worked in the woods for over 70 years before he was forced to retire. It's amazing how recently all the villages up North didn't even exist here, but now mostly only old folks live up there; younger generations flock to the cities, where all the work is. All the natural resources are easy to move out by machine.

Well... not quite as interesting as your tale, but I felt I had to share at least some tale of origin in exchange! :) Setting those (hopefully not too bad...) memories aside, have you seen any Legend of Korra?

That's OK. Thanks, my family and past has always been an incredible story. I'm not upset about anything that happened because I got lucky with my life! It is inspiring what our ancestors did to survive way back when. A cousin of mine is doing some genealogy himself, I think, but he shares all his findings with me.

I still think your origins are cool!

Sorry, I stopped watching Legend of Korra, I'm more into The Last Airbender.

BTW, my Grandma passed away at 4:30 this morning from a bleeding brain...

Glad to hear it! Tales of the past are inspiring indeed! They make some hardships of modern life seem so trivial in comparison.

:)

Ah, alright. I watched the original series when it came out, so there's only Legend of Korra left now, unfortunately.

...

Not sure how I should respond to things like this... I'm sorry for your loss! Through all that's been written in this recent conversations it seemed she was a kind person, and that you shared a really strong bond. Hope you'll be OK too, and your near ones! Heaps of empathy!

Sometimes, I'd hear a High School girl complain, "Mommy didn't get me a car! I'm going to die! My life is over!" OR "Daddy won't let me go out here, there, or date so-and-so! I want to die!" I'd think "You *swear word*! Take a walk through a Children's Hospital! Children, who mat not even live!" OR "Walk through a Nursing Home and see what it is like to die!" My little cousin, Guelina (Julia) had Leukemia at 2 years old, her mother never even got to hold her, but she lived. I saw an elderly man, who was so desperate to die, he stopped eating, and became a living skeleton. I saw all this at 20 years old...

Legend of Korra is too confusing. I mean, Airbender was long, but it let you know where you were and what was what.

Thanks. Grandma gave up her life to take care of me and I repaid that favor, but she did much more than I could ever repay. I'm alright, I guess ^__^

Yeah, so many people don't know what they have until they lose it! Or they never realize how luxurious a life they're allowed to live in the first place. I guess there'll always be gaps in society, and injustice, and there's definitely an abundance of people who have it much much worse than I do, but the lack of appreciation with some people can be really aggravating. They can be genuinely kind and benevolent too, just so unaware of the world... wish understanding was schooled along with all the - at times - irrelevant science of society.

They do skip pretty freely between friendship and enmity, and from one crisis to the next, from victory to setback and back... but it has its moments. :) I agree entirely: Avatar was just perfect.

Mmm. Good to hear!

Exactly!

I'll admit; I liked the 1st Season of Korra, but it was too short and they rushed the back-stories. I didn't watch ALL of Avatar, but I followed it pretty smoothly.

Yeah...I had to get new clothes to go to my Grandma's *groans* Calling Hours, which means I sit in front of a casket for 3 hours and listen to people say they're 'Good-Byes' to Grandma. I think we'll have a Priest speak, but I had to make Papa see why he had to be there too. He can be VERY difficult, but I am VERY persistent, lol!

Mmm, Amon was a vicious villian! Yeah, introductions were all really sudden, though I suppose they skipped those since the previous anime spent so much time particularly on the first phases of learning. Rather then enemies, it was about the elements, but it did build up the atmosphere much better before that final showdown!

Ah, sounds heavy. Our traditions call for very little responsabilities before the actual funeral. First a sitting in church, singing and speaking (those who wish to say something take the stage), then parading the coffin to the graveyard, lowering it and showering it with roses. Usually there's either lunch or dinner right after, or both, featuring expensive buffets with , though you'd think people wouldn't have much appetite on such occasions! Hope it goes well.

Well, taking away people's ability to bend was new, but it wasn't actually taking away anything because it could be reawakened. I still think they should have spread out Amon's attacks because he wasn't as built-up as Ozai was: Muscular, always in shadow, powerful...It was like by the time you found out about one attack, another one was already happening.

Now is a difficult time for everyone, though. Oh! My Grandma isn't getting buried, she wanted to be cremated. We're not having a lunch or dinner buffet, anyway. Thanks.

Oh whoops, forgot to paste in translation! Buffet with: sandwich layer cake, amongst other easy edibles.
